The Deck at The National Theatre London Wedding | Anna & Tom

I arrived at their home to get some shots of Anna and their two daughters getting ready and was so inspired by being in the midst of little signs of family life, the felt tip calendar with days crossed off up until the wedding. All those everyday things you find in a house with children. I wanted to tell that part of the day from their daughters' perspectives and I waited patiently to get the black and white shot with the youngest peeking round the door. It turned out to be well worth it as Tom and Anna told me after seeing their preview images:

"We both said the shot of Evie looking around the door is worth the price of all your work...we will treasure that for the rest of our lives."

I may have done a little dance at my computer when I read those words. 

When Tom and Anna first told me they were getting married at The Deck, part of The National Theatre in London I had to catch my breath a bit. London is such a beautiful city and The Deck had one of the best views of the skyline I've seen. It was gorgeous in the daytime but truly came into its own when night fell… all the twinkling lights on the Thames.

Shottle Hall, Derbyshire Wedding | Alex + Sarah

I hope you're all having an awesome day! Aside from website stuff I've been all over a big pile of crumpets and marathoning Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I totally needed something now Parks and Recreation has left a huge hole in my life. Between this and Danger 5, I think I might just make it through! Any other show recommendations you can hit me with are totally appreciated. So.. on with the blogging...

Shottle Hall, nestled in the Derbyshire countryside between Wirksworth and Belper, is such a sweet little venue. I've shot a couple of weddings there now and I love exploring the grounds. Sarah and Alex's wedding was right up my street. I arrived to the sounds of Tigermilk by Belle and Sebastian on their record player… just the perfect way to start a day full of sci-fi goodness, vintage dresses and fun and games. From the comic book ties to the Star Trek figures, the Star Wars cupcakes to TARDIS card box it was a total feast for my geeky eyes. So many amazing moments in the day… dancing in the dining room, personalised vows, light sabre battles, hugs and space hopper races.

Clovelly Wedding | Peri & Neil

After hours of train rides, a bus ride and a taxi I found myself at the Clovelly visitor centre at the top of the Devon village. It really is like stepping back in time, down the famous cobbled street… no cars… just the prettiest little cottages, shops, cats lazing in the sunshine and a totally unique little community.

Peri and Neil had an intimate wedding with just their closest family so they didn't need much coverage so it wasn't a full day for me. After their ceremony we headed off on an adventure to get some portraits around the village, making the most of the gorgeous views and the quirks of the place. There's something super special about a seaside wedding…add to that the incredible weather and Neil and Peri being awesome people and it was a real highlight for me last summer.
