There's No Place Like Home - Derby Wedding Photographer

It's no secret that I love to see new places. There's only a handful of venues I've worked at more than once… I'm lucky enough to have shot destination weddings in Dublin, Cork, Cologne, Azerbaijan… with weddings in Tuscany and Denmark coming up soon. Long may it continue. But so far… in Derby, the city I live in… I've shot less than half a dozen. I've shot the UK from coves in Cornwall to clifftops in Scotland… and as much as I love a good cooked breakfast, it'd be nice to go back to my own bed after a wedding from time to time, rather than a little room with a tiny kettle (now I'm giggling because of that episode of The Thick of It with the tiny kettle). Our own wedding ceremony was at Derby registry office and it's where I shot my first ever wedding so it's a special place for me. So, if you're getting married in or around Derby I want to shoot your wedding. For a limited time I have a special price for local couples… get in touch to find out more.

Hannah & Carl's Deal Seaside Engagement Shoot

I met up with Hannah and Carl over Easter down in my childhood haunt, Deal in Kent. Sweet damn: these guys are cool. I, ever the dork, possibly got a bit overexcited about Carl having worked on L.A. Noire, one of my all time favourite games. Their wedding is almost here and it's going to be amazing! I'm getting excited just thinking about it.

For their shoot we explored Deal, with its pier and pebble beach and tumbledown crazy golf course. Having been stuck inside gazing out at rain for the past week, it feels really strange looking at these sunny shots from a few short weeks ago. Summer, where did you go?

I shot part of this engagement shoot on film…. it's one of my aims this year to use film more. You'll probably be able to spot the grainy shots below.

Lou & Rich's London Engagement Shoot

St Pancras is one of my favourite places… the first stop on so many of my adventures with my camera. The site of many plates of sushi consumed, time wiled away waiting to go home, stranger's piano skills… As a teenager I used to travel from Chesterfield to Deal to visit my dad and it left me with a lifelong love for train journeys… that feeling of excitement and independence. So having the opportunity to shoot there with the awesome Lou and Rich was great. Having shot a few weddings at Camden Town Hall round the corner I had a few little spots in mind and shooting in the station itself was wonderful.

Naomi & Chris' Nottingham Engagement Shoot

It can be awesome to let an engagement shoot take the form of a trip down memory lane. Taking a tour of their old haunts around Nottingham  was loads of fun. I can't wait to hang out with them again when their wedding finally comes round. My favourite discovery of the tour was The Malt Cross, an old music hall turned pub, gig venue and art gallery (someone have a wedding there and let me shoot it please? will accept part payment in exciting hot chocolates and ales)
