A family photoshoot in Derbyshire

"Let the wild rumpus start!"

I had so much fun on this shoot. Derbyshire has so much to offer… There's so much to explore so it's the perfect place for a family photo session! Whenever I photograph kids I love letting them run wild so that their personalities have permission to shine through. I also always make sure I give parents a chance to get some shots too, because sometimes life with kids can be a bit of a blur and you forget to give yourself a bit of love too. Testing Sigma's 50mm 1.4 Art Lens - Lauren & Dave's Engagement Shoot in Derby

So Lauren and Dave came over to Allestree, just outside of Derby for a little shoot in the park ahead of their wedding in a couple of weeks. I love the lake, the woodland and the fields there… I'm so lucky to live so close to such a beautiful place. The weather was a mixture, with the heavens opening one moment, strong winds and splashes of warm sun breaking through every now and then. I recently got my paws on one of Sigma's brand new 50mm 1.4 art lenses and decided to pack light and use it for the whole shoot. I've had a little play with it at my last few weddings but this shoot cemented how smitten I am with it. I've used the canon 1.8, 1.4 and 1.2 50mms and Sigma's regular 1.4 (starting to think I might have something of a problem…)  but this is my favourite 50 by far. The shoot felt like a breath of fresh of air for me… when I came to edit it I ended up trying out some new techniques and finally made a bit of a breakthrough with lightroom, which I have resisted for years now. Excited to play more with my new kit and try more new things 

Derby Photography - The Little Shed in Allestree

Just round the corner from where I live in Allestree, just outside Derby, The Little Shed has popped up and opened yesterday with a cupcake, meringue and Pimms fuelled evening celebration. I popped round with my camera to get some shots of the loveliness and do a spot of shopping. If  you fancy popping down this evening (June 12th) there's another party and the shop is well worth a visit.

India & Caitlin - Twin Portraits

Trying new things has always been essential for me. I spend a lot of time looking out for new people to collaborate with… and when I spotted The Wild Twins' portfolio  I knew that I had to work with them. Working with twins was really fun, especially as these girls have such a bond and such a warmth about them. Shooting some portraits with them in the beautiful surroundings of my personal favourite location, Allestree Park in Derby was like taking a deep breath for the first time in months. I could have photographed them in that field of buttercups for hours and hours and hours. Here's some of my favourite shots from the shoot.

There's No Place Like Home - Derby Wedding Photographer

It's no secret that I love to see new places. There's only a handful of venues I've worked at more than once… I'm lucky enough to have shot destination weddings in Dublin, Cork, Cologne, Azerbaijan… with weddings in Tuscany and Denmark coming up soon. Long may it continue. But so far… in Derby, the city I live in… I've shot less than half a dozen. I've shot the UK from coves in Cornwall to clifftops in Scotland… and as much as I love a good cooked breakfast, it'd be nice to go back to my own bed after a wedding from time to time, rather than a little room with a tiny kettle (now I'm giggling because of that episode of The Thick of It with the tiny kettle). Our own wedding ceremony was at Derby registry office and it's where I shot my first ever wedding so it's a special place for me. Sam & Richard - Maternity Photography In Allestree, Derbyshire

Oh, spring. It feels like you came and went so quickly as we find ourselves thrust into another classic British summer… heatwave one day, downpour the next.

I was lucky enough to shoot Sam and Richard's beautiful chilled out London pub wedding last year and  I was so excited to catch up and work with them on a maternity shoot. They came to see me in Allestree, just outside Derby and we tracked down some beautiful blossom to bring into the photos.
